The conference on Harnessing the Power: CRVS systems for 2030 global agendas may begin on the 27th February 2018, but conversations have already begun on key themes and issues related to civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems.
The Centre of Excellence have recently launched two hashtags on social media: #CRVS2030 in English and #ESEC2030 for the French speaking community. These hashtags will bring together ideas, aspirations and debate voiced on social media both prior to and during the conference.
It will be possible to use these hashtags across different social media platforms bringing together visuals, forums and individuals. This is a powerful way of bringing a more diverse range of voices into the debate with the potential to shape the outcomes of the conference. Conversations which emerge around these hashtags will be visible during the conference and will enable those not present to receive live updates on the key themes as they develop.
CRVS systems – join in the discussion
The data and statistical evidence drawn from CRVS systems has been recognised as a critical means of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The impacts of well-functioning CRVS systems on women’s health, human rights and disaster relief are enormous. For example: a woman with no proof of marriage has no rights or recourse to claim inheritance following the death of a spouse; humanitarian relief is unable to respond effectively without comprehensive and clear data on those at risk. The issues are diverse but the solutions do not have to be complex. This conference will bring key policy and practice experts from across sectors together to consider actionable strategies to take forward.
These hashtags are an invitation to join in the discussion. The conference aims to listen and respond to the range of issues surrounding CRVS systems worldwide and develop practical and achievable next steps. To have your say use #CRVS2030 or #ESEC2030 and get online.
You can follow the hashtag on Twitter and look out for social media updates from @IDRC_CRDI.
