Christopher McLennan, Assistant Deputy Minister of Global Issues and Development at Global Affairs Canada delivered the welcome address at the CRVS Innovation Conference. 

In this video he talks about the importance of solid evidence to inform the construction of health systems which serve the specific needs of a population. He highlights that more work is needed on sex disaggregated data, to build the types evidence bases necessary, both to ensure the achievement of the SDGs in 2030, and to ensure that strategies acknowledge and recognize the different challenges faced by women and girls in developing countries. 

The international conference on innovations in Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) systems was held in Ottawa on 27-28 February, 2018.
