Shamshad Akhtar, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), talks about how effective CRVS systems are critical in ensuring women have legal rights to inheritance, social protection and land ownership. She highlights that in Asia recent steps have been taken to improve legal frameworks and advocacy to improve CRVS systems, including the digitalisation of data collection systems.

This video was captured at the gender and CRVS meeting held at IDRC, in Ottawa on February 26, 2018.
